Book Review :

Just another wave by Sai Surve-Rane is a quaint collection of 41 poems divided into various thematic compartments ranging from Nature, Reflections, emotions and personal perspectives. Every poem is meant for a particular mood. Some words are a fit tribute to Doyens of poetry, like R. Frost while others pay homage to the earth, the sky and the moon and the nature. In this book, there is heart tugging nostalgia, where she speaks of grand mums, and new mums and old teachers who have moulded our lives, those butterflies we all have spent our summers chasing, the horizons that many of us haven’t had a chance to glance at recently. Then there are are verses about silences and  muted eloquences that often shape the course of our lives . You get to read about second chances, and homecomings and so much more.

This is a perfect book that you can carry with you in your bag and savor at a beach, with your feet buried in sand and sea waves gushing in the background, or even in your balcony as the sun slowly sets on your busy day.

My favorite poem of the lot has to be ‘Prelude’ simply because I loved the opening lines.

” A leaf on the wind, no roots to bind,

A rolling stone, no moss can find,

Places beckon, run I must,

‘Cos settling is for death and dust.”

There is something for everybody here, especially for us soon to be old people who are fans of the dead poet’s society.  “Medicine, law, business, engineering – these are noble pursuits and necessary to sustain life. But poetry, beauty, romance, love: these are what we stay alive for.”
